Hello there,

It´s been a while (again).  I got the flue with lots of fever. High temperature indeed. Like  this episode of Struttin My Stuff. Hot, sexy and yes, sometimes plain sleazy and pornographic. Thrown in between  all this excitement are tracks taken from the cd Dirty Fanmail - Genuine Letters Written To Porn Stars.

Filthy? Yes.  Disturbing? Mwah. Hilarious? Very Hilarious!

Hello there,

First of all: sorry for the delay. I got stuck in the snow up in the Pyrenees. It´s pretty cold out there (as it is here in Barcelona at the moment). Inspirational enough though to put a good bunch of chillin´ records at the beginning of this show. The music itself is as hot as always, just like the rest of this episode of Struttin My Stuff which includes a tribute  to  R & B greats Etta James and Johnny Otis.
After all the excitement we leave you behind, under a beautiful and peaceful  Winter Moon

Have fun with this show and see you later!

Hello there!

It´s a bluesy one, this Strutting My Stuff epìsode. Must be the season. And the theme of course. My baby left me, it must be the ultimate blues subject.
Anyway, a good opportunity - not that we need one - to play some Howlin Wolf stuff, with the great and alas late guitarplayer Hubert Sumlin. RIP.

For the rest of you, have fun with this show and see you next week at our Funky Christmas Party!

Hello there,

It´s pourin cats and dogs in Barcelona, and it´s a lot colder too. Time to put some extra fire in the Struttin My Stuff show. But titles apart, all the records on this show will warm your spirit and soul, in my humble opinion.  As usual they come from all directions and styles and periods, from Dead Moon´s Hey Joe to Papa Harvey Hull´s France Blues and everthing in between. We even have some Pachelbel this time! Moanin and Groanin Radio goes classic.

Have fun with the show

Hello there,
And a very warm welcome to Struttin My Stuff # 24.
First the music then the music from now on.  Like it ought to be.
I felt like spinning a couple of night songs this time. We play the Swingers, with their spooky 1950 instrumental Nighthwalk, trip through a Midnight Dream with Little Axe from his 2002  modern classic Hard Grind  and keep Little Walter company when he does his Blue Midnight.
Hey, we even throw in some Midnight Ska from South Africa. By the way, did you know that the word reggae probably comes from South Africa?  I didn´t until very recent. The song Rea Gae  was recorded in 1939(!) by The Pietersburg Melodians which was actually an alias for the poeular vaudeville groep The Pitch Black Follies. Have a listen here: Pretty Jamaican it sound, doesn´t it? (Read the whole story here)
Talking about words and name. We play Country Paul´s  beautiful  blues Black Cat Trail on this show. But Paul also made records  as Jammin Slim, Lazy Slim Jim, Carolina Slim and Paul Howard.  His real name though was Edward P. Harris. Beat that, John Lee Hooker!

Well John Lee is dead. Just like the Wardell Quezergue. The Creole Beethoven, like Allan Toussaint use to call him died last month, leaving a big gap in the New Orleans music community behind. Quezergue wrote music, played piano, produced and arranged records and was an inspiration for many many many musicians. Not too many people have heard about him, but almost everybody knows a record Quezergue had someting to do with. We play three of them: Robert Parker´s Funky Soul Train, Jean Knight´s Mr Big Stuff and Dorothy Moore´s Misty Blue. The last one is a mid 70´s soul ballad, just at the good side of the disco and Philly sounds.

We´re closing  with good John Cale´s Close Watch, taken from a bootleg of a 80ties  live-show with yours truly in the crowd. Sweet memories
James Cotton´s Black Night is Falling sounds in the background while  I´m typing these words. Would have been a good show opener too. Well, some future show. In the meantime enjoy this one and stay tuned for  the next show, sometime later this month. Number 25, so we´ll be havin a party!

Have fun

Struttin My stuff # 23 - He was nothing but a Hound Dog

Greetings all!
Back after a long summerbreak with  Struttin My StuffMOANIN and GROANIN Radio´s eclectic music show to sooth your body and soul.
From now on we will even be more eclectic by throwing - among other things -  Celtic stuff in the mix, as well as some of my favorite singer-songwriters from all over the globe, mostly to cool things down a bit at the end of a show.(This time it´s Bob Dylan´s personal no. 1, Townes van Zandt.).
The Celtic touch comes from County Donegal, Ireland and is called Skara Brae.  Skara Brae is the former group of the amazing Dhomhnaill family: sisters Tríona  and  Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill plus their brother Mícheál Ó Domhnaill. After the break up of Skara Brae in ´72, Triona and Mícheál became (founding) members of the famous Bothy Band, one the most important groups for the ´reinvention´ of Irish traditional music in the seventies.
The  version of the traditionall Dónal Óg on this show comes from a Skara Brae reunion concert in 2004, with amazing lead vocals by Maighread.

Sadly Micheal Ó Domhnaill.passed away in 2006, after a fall in his home.
Which brings me to the first four songs of this show, all (co) written by Hound Dog Jerry Leiber, who passed away last month to meet Elvis, Big Mama Thorton and the rest. Come to think of it - almost all artists on this show are dead. (Little Richard: "Me dead?´Í´m gonna rip it up!") Mmmmm. Anyway, may their music make you feel alive and kicking!

Have fun with the show.

TB Turpentine
